Villa Nova

Although located in a strip mall in midtown Anchorage, when you walk into Villa Nova you could be in a charming Italian restaurant anywhere in the world. The decor is similar to an Italian bistro; walls awash with wicker covered chianti bottles and garlands of hanging garlic. A classical guitarist playing heartwarming, romantic music creates a vignette and you've been suddenly transported from Anchorage, Alaska to Venice, Italy.

But Villa Nova is all about food. Chef Giorgio prepares creative dishes of fresh fish, beef, lamb, veal, chicken and pasta in a Continental style, mostly Italian. His rich but delicate sauces turn even the most simple dish into a culinary delight. The gnocchi and seafood fettucine are delicious as well as the Cacciuco Livornese (an Italian seafood stew), osso bucco and the fresh halibut stuffed with crab--all to be enjoyed with a wide range of impressive wines.

The desserts are amazing and numerous. Nan Elliott, editor of Alaska Best Places describes, "The elegant homemade desserts are not to be missed: Domo, a cake laced with flavors of oranges, chocolate and raspberries, or Cassata da Grand Marnier, homemade chocolate cups filled with vanilla ice cream, homemade marmalade and pistachio nuts.
Villa Nova is fun, romantic and homey and should be a part of your Alaskan culinary experience.
